This past week, Mon Valley Integration held its annual Electrical Re-Training course for all qualified persons within the company at the Waterfront Place Hotel in the Wharf District of Morgantown, WV. This training is required by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Title 30 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 75 for surface, and Part 77 for underground. Both of these regulations state that “An individual qualified in accordance with this section shall, in order to retain qualification, certify annually to the District Manager, that he has satisfactorily completed a coal mine electrical retraining program approved by the Secretary.” Dr. David Podobinski, P.E., Director of Engineering at MVI, was the instructor for the course. He lectured on low, medium, and high voltage topics, along with safety and accident prevention. An always sobering review of fatalgrams took place, as well as a question and answer group discussion on a variety of topics, including safety ground fields. MVI would like to thank Dave for putting on such a great training session, and the Waterfront staff for being wonderful hosts all day.
